JSON Minifier

Paste JSON to minify it: all spaces, tabs and line breaks between values are removed, giving the smallest valid JSON with exactly the same data. The JSON is checked first, so you never minify something broken. Nothing you paste leaves your browser.

How to use the JSON Minifier

  1. Paste your JSON into the input box, or pick one of the examples.
  2. Click Minify JSON. Invalid JSON shows an error with its line and column instead.
  3. Copy the minified JSON or download it as a .json file.

Features

  • Removes all whitespace outside strings; text inside strings is kept exactly
  • Validates the JSON first and shows the line and column of any error
  • Copy to the clipboard or download as a .json file
  • Switch back to readable JSON at any time with Format JSON
  • Runs entirely in your browser, so private data stays on your device

Frequently asked questions

Does minifying change my data?
No, only the whitespace between values is removed. Keys, values and their order stay the same. As with any browser tool, numbers larger than about 9 quadrillion (2^53) lose precision.
How much smaller does JSON get?
It depends on the indentation. Pretty-printed JSON often shrinks by 10 to 40 percent, more when it is deeply nested or indented with four spaces or tabs.
Should I minify JSON sent by an API?
Minified JSON is smaller to send and store. If your server already compresses responses with gzip or Brotli, the extra saving is small, but minifying still helps for storage and embedding.
How do I make minified JSON readable again?
Paste it here and click Format JSON. It is indented and shown as a tree you can search.
