JSON Diff: Compare Two JSON Objects

Paste an original and an updated JSON document to see exactly what changed. Every difference is listed with its full path, such as $["users"][0]["email"], with the old and new values side by side.

JSON Compare / Diff

How to use the JSON Diff

  1. Paste the original JSON on the left.
  2. Paste the updated JSON on the right.
  3. Click Compare JSON to list every added, removed and changed value.

Features

  • Finds added, removed and changed values at any depth
  • Shows the full path to every difference
  • Compares arrays item by item, by position
  • Ignores formatting and key order, so only real data changes are reported
  • Clear error messages if either document is not valid JSON

Frequently asked questions

Does the order of keys matter?
No. {"a": 1, "b": 2} and {"b": 2, "a": 1} are treated as identical, because key order has no meaning in JSON objects.
How are arrays compared?
Item by item, by position. If an item is inserted at the start of an array, every later item is reported as changed, because its position moved.
Is whitespace or indentation compared?
No. Both documents are parsed first, so only the data is compared.
