JSON Toolkit

Fast, private JSON tools that run in your browser.

🔒 Data stays in your browser

JSON Formatter & Validator

Paste JSON to pretty-print it, check that it is valid, or minify it. Errors point to the exact line and column, and formatted data opens in a collapsible tree you can search. Everything runs in your browser, so nothing you paste is uploaded.

How to use the JSON Formatter & Validator

  1. Paste your JSON into the input box, or pick one of the examples.
  2. Click Format JSON to validate it and open it as a tree, or Minify JSON to remove all whitespace.
  3. Search keys and values in the tree, then copy the result or download it as a .json file.

Features

  • Validation that shows the exact line and column of the first error, in every browser
  • A collapsible tree view with search and highlighted matches
  • Statistics: objects, arrays, keys, value types, nesting depth and size
  • Minify to the smallest valid JSON
  • Copy or download the result
  • Keyboard friendly: open and close tree branches with Enter or Space

Frequently asked questions

Is my JSON uploaded anywhere?
No. Formatting, validation and search all happen in your browser, and the JSON you paste is never sent to a server.
Why does my JSON fail to validate?
The most common causes are trailing commas, single quotes instead of double quotes, unquoted keys and comments, none of which JSON allows. The error message shows the line and column where parsing stopped.
How large a file can it handle?
Files with tens of thousands of lines format almost instantly, and files of around 100,000 lines still work well.
Does formatting change my data?
Formatting only changes whitespace. The one exception is numbers larger than about 9 quadrillion (2^53), which lose precision because browsers store numbers as 64-bit floating point.
